Our smart phones are equipped with multiple ways for us to share content from wifi, blue-tooth, text message and regular phone reception. So why was NFC introduced as well? Surly we have enough options when it comes to sending and receiving data right? I remember asking myself the same question while learning about NFC Smart Phones but when I started to look at our behavior as a society I can confidently say that I believe there are two cultural trends that have made NFC a smart decision for now and a necessary decision for the future.
Its no secret that things are changing as we edge towards a 24 hour society with restaurants and shopping centers that never close there doors along with guaranteed next day deliveries but what may not be as obvious is how our perception of time is changing. More and more studies revealing our shrinking attention spans and growing impatience are highlighting the fact that what was considered fast enough a few years ago is no longer fast enough today so it comes as no wonder that an instant transfer technology such as NFC has been introduced to main stream society to keep up with our demand for immediacy.
At the same time as our patience for waiting for things is decreasing our demand for information is continuously growing with over two million Google searches each minute our culture is moving from traditional forms of media to digital forms and NFC is bridging the gap between the two worlds, a perfect example of this is the combination of traditional media such as posters now containing NFC chips so the audience is captured by the post just as they always have been, but then have the ability to explore the content further in the digital world instantly by scanning the poster with their NFC smart phone.
